Needle Felting
While researching what media I could work in with my chronic fatigue a key factor was it would have to be something I could pickup, put down and work on in 15 minute blocks.
I've been crocheting for around 5 years and so my exploration naturally tilted towards wool, which is where I happened upon needle felting.
I started in January 2018 with a beginners kit and was hooked. I love working with this material as it allows me to explore different natural fibres and dyes.
Most felt artists finish their pieces with wet felting. This is currently too labour intensive for me, but as I continue to recover the potential is there to explore this new technique.
British Sign Language
I'd previously worked in the deaf community as a British Sign Language interpreter.
I wanted to experiment with the unique aesthetics of sign language and how that would translate into art.
Doing so has allowed me to continue exploring sign language from a new perspective and while I am no longer an active interpreter it allows me to keep sign language in my life.
